Position Details

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) is one of the world's largest, and most highly regarded, community-based emergency services organisations. We respond to fire and other emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whilst our firefighters are the cornerstone of CFA services, what goes on behind the scenes is just as important in helping to protect lives and property.

About the Role:

Do you have skills and experience working in community engagement and facilitation? Are you now seeking a role working with a supportive team? Do you enjoy role autonomy and ownership of your day-to-day schedule?  A part time opportunity for a self-driven and energetic Project Officer – Community Based Bushfire Management has become available in the South East Region, based in Dandenong.   This role will see you work 30.4 hours per week (0.8), which can be worked over 4 or 5 days.

This position focuses on increasing community involvement in bushfire risk reduction, while also promoting inter-agency collaboration in bushfire management. CBBM aims to use place-based methods of facilitation to identify local solutions to local problems. Your days will see you support the delivery of the Community Based Bushfire Management (CBBM) program to reduce local bushfire risk by working closely with partners such as Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), Local Government and community organisations, as you support the implementation of the Victorian Government's Safer Together policy.

This role will see you allocated a CFA vehicle and will include travel, some of which may require overnight stays.

About You:

The person we are seeking will have demonstrated skills and experience in group facilitation within a community and stakeholder setting, along with a working knowledge of the application of community engagement principles and practices.

You will be positive and resilient by nature and you will bring interpersonal, facilitation and liaison skills allowing you to work with a diverse range of both internal and external stakeholders.  Further to this, you will have well developed written and oral communication skills allowing you to develop strong working relationships with the community, regional and district agency teams.

This role will suit someone with a keen interest in community development who is interested in securing a challenging yet interesting role with a board scope dealing with a diverse range of stakeholders across the fire and emergency management sector.
