The Country Fire Authority (CFA) is one of the world's largest, and most highly regarded, community-based emergency services organisations. We are proud of the work we do in protecting lives and property, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.   CFA strives to be a values-based organisation and an organisation of choice for volunteers and employees, where people with a variety of skills, experiences and backgrounds all add value through the roles they perform.

About the Role:

There is an opportunity for you to join the CFA as Training Specialist AFDRS in a fixed-term capacity until the 30th of June 2023.

In the Training Specialist AFDRS position, your main focus will be updating, developing and rolling out training to support the introduction of the Australian Fire Danger Rating System (AFDRS). The AFDRS is a project of national significance being developed collaboratively by states, territories, and the Commonwealth government, aiming to improve public safety and reduce the impacts of bushfires.

Implementing a fire danger rating system will have significant implications, and in this role, you will have the opportunity to develop and update training and assessment material, articulating AFDRS changes into CFA's processes and procedures. Moreover, you will ensure operational needs are considered in the design and delivery of the training package, along with the needs analysis of current and potential operational users, seeking to positively impact operational and end user confidence.

Join the CFA and participate in the roll out of a major national initiative!

About You:

To be successful in this position, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • A Certificate IV TAE or higher qualification in Adult or Vocational Education and Training.

  • Knowledge of contemporary learning strategy, models and frameworks, able to act as a true subject matter expert.

  • Sound experience in developing and implementing evidence-based programs within a large organization (volunteer organisation preferable).

  • A sound understanding of the current Fire Danger Rating system currently used in Victoria and an understanding of bushfire management, suppression and fire behaviour.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise, consult and facilitate effectively with a wide range of people including government, industry, and community, educational and volunteer bodies.

  • Leadership skills, aiming for effective cooperation and contribution from stakeholders and the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships.

  • Demonstrated experience leading the development of eLearning content using SCORM compliant authoring tools (desirable).
