Strategic Planning (Lead Local Precincts)

  • Usual Work Location: 1 Spring Street, Melbourne CBD (flexibility may be available)

About the Opportunity

Shape locally significant precinct outcomes across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria by supporting strategic, integrated transport and land use outcomes that deliver social, economic and environmental benefits.

Collaborating with experienced transport planners and land use planners, the Lead Local Precincts will support capturing transport network benefits, embedding 20-minute neighbourhood principles and translating Plan Melbourne's strategic directions to deliver compact, connected communities and places.

The Lead Local Precincts is a dynamic strategic planning role, supporting the delivery of strategic frameworks, guidelines and strategies (Urban Design Frameworks, Structure Plans, etc.) and providing advice and guidance across the transport portfolio.

  • Strategic Planning: thinks at the big picture level through entertaining a wide-ranging possibilities in developing a vision for the future
  • Strong influence and negotiation capability: gains agreement to proposals and ideas and ensures buy-in to achieve outcomes (e.g. ‘Gets A to show B so B will tell C'
  • Environmental Scanning: monitors external sources and identifies underlying trends through use of a variety of systems, processes, and sources to gather information and gain deeper understanding
  • Leadership capability: Demonstrated team commitment by motivation and personal conviction

Qualifications and experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Urban Planning or a related discipline.
  • Preference for professional experience in statutory or strategic land use planning (or both).
