About us

The Department of Treasury and Finance provides economic, financial and resource management advice to help the Victorian Government deliver its policies. We strive for excellence in financial and economic management to improve the lives of all Victorians.

Economic Group provides advice on macroeconomic conditions and policy, transport, infrastructure and planning policy, and energy, environment and resources policy to improve Victoria's prosperity.

Within the Group, the Macroeconomic Strategy team provides authoritative advice and forecasts on Victoria's economic conditions and outlook – most prominently as part of the annual state budget and budget update publications. It monitors economic and financial market developments and advises on the implications for the economic outlook and risks. And it also advises on strategic policy issues including economic recovery and Victoria's longer-term population, employment and productivity growth.

About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for motivated Manager, Macroeconomic Strategy (VPS6) to join the Economic Division on an ongoing basis.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work independently and as a leader in the team to produce robust advice on complex issues including current and future macroeconomic conditions
  • Manage and lead quantitative and qualitative research projects to inform advice on current and future economic conditions;
  • Develop, enhance and leverage relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Build the capability of team members by proactively looking for opportunities for continuous improvement

About you

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Superior analytical skills and a record of achievement in macroeconomic analysis and forecasting;
  • Highly developed quantitative skills, including experience using statistical packages such as EViews, R or Stata to analyse and forecast economic data;
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to coach staff, while also fostering a constructive team culture.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated capability to present persuasive economic arguments to senior executives;
