About VMIA

Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) is the Victorian Government's insurer and risk adviser, covering the people and projects that help Victorians thrive. We're an agency in the Department of Treasury and Finance portfolio established under the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority Act, and report to the Assistant Treasurer.

We provide insurance and risk advice to government departments and agencies, with more than 4,600 clients ranging from small community service organisations to public hospitals, schools, and core service providers. We also provide domestic building insurance to builders, giving Victorian homeowners peace of mind for building projects valued over $16,000.

We help our clients prepare for, prevent, or reduce the impact of harm. When things don't go to plan, we help clients restore services and recover quickly.

Your role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior People and Culture practitioner to lead the development of a higher value partnering service focused on workforce planning, change, and insight-based advice. You will work with peers to deliver on the vision of a new People and Culture model that put culture and capability at the centre of our focus.

As a leader and an integral part of the People and Culture team, you'll take a client centric approach to identifying needs and working with colleagues to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions that have impact. Your role is key to realising the benefits from initiatives, programs, and processes that enable a high-performing organisation with a great people experience.

You'll possess a comprehensive understanding of contemporary people and culture practices and emerging trends to:

  • lead workforce planning across the business to ensure we have the capability in place to achieve our strategy.
  • facilitate effective change and transformation and improve change frameworks and tools to achieve VMIA objectives and a positive people experience.
  • Consult with and equip leaders with data, metrics, and insights to enable them to clearly understand workforce dynamics, benchmark, recognise trends and make informed judgements and decisions that support our people objectives.

Who you work with

  • People & Culture colleagues, senior leaders, and our people to shape plans for people initiatives.
  • You work collaboratively with leaders across VMIA and the Business Operations Division, to deliver our People & Culture plans, annual program of work and drive continual service enhancements across the function.
  • You consult and provide strategic and operational advice across the business to resolve people matters and partner with stakeholders to enhance decision making abilities amongst our leaders.

About you

  • Experience as a Senior People and Culture practitioner leading the implementation of People & Culture projects, including workforce planning, remuneration, performance, and leadership, talent, and succession framework ideally across multiple organisations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of contemporary people and culture practices and emerging trends.
  • You possess strong data and analytical capability to inform decision making and address business problems, including concepts of supply and demand forecasting.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead improvements in service and to lift the maturity of consulting and partnering within an organisation.
  • A relevant Human Resource Management, Business Management, Psychology qualification or other related discipline.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of Victorian Public Sector people and culture policies.

Additional Information

VMIA is supportive of hybrid working arrangements but has a requirement of a minimum of two days in the collaborative office environment.
