Position Details

The First Peoples - State Relations Group is seeking talented and passionate individuals committed to progressing the Victorian Government's nation leading work with First Peoples.

This is a unique opportunity to work in new and innovative ways that recognise First Peoples as the self-determining drivers of Aboriginal affairs in Victoria. This role will contribute to the ground-breaking work of the Group in the areas of truth, treaty, self-determination and cultural rights.

As the Senior Heritage Project Officer, you will work with First Peoples on cultural heritage management and protection in ways which recognise the leading role of strong and engaged Traditional Owners as the holders of cultural rights.

The role has a specific focus on upholding Aboriginal cultural rights through delivery of a program to protect significant Aboriginal places using heritage protection mechanisms under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • expert knowledge of Aboriginal cultural heritage management issues relevant to South-Eastern Australia, along with an understanding of relevant legislation and policy, Aboriginal community aspirations and current challenges and opportunities
  • strong verbal, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
  • excellent analytical, conceptual, and problem solving skills
  • strong project management, planning and organisational skills
  • strong written communication skills, with a high degree of attention to detail.

Some travel across Victoria is necessary to undertake this role. A current drivers licence is required.
