Who we are

Service Victoria is the one place to go for government services. It's our job to make things easy. Our customers give our services an overall 96% satisfaction score, and our app was the most downloaded in Australia last year. We are growing and are looking for skilled designers to join our team.

Position Duties:

  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Delivery, Policy, and Design leaders to create compelling, personalised experiences that support and empower all Victorians with low/no touch, effortless interactions which follow universally accessible patterns.
  • Design and validate innovative solutions, working with stakeholders to understand and balance customer, business, technical and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with our leaders to develop strategy, contribute to the roadmap and support the impact we want to make as an organisation.
  • Ensure our products deliver on our organisational goals, meet quality benchmarks, and are regularly released.
  • Mentor and manage a small team of UX designers and help them grow and do their best work.
  • Inspire other members of our team to think about Human Centred Design and the advancement of our design function within the organisation.
  • Present compelling stories and craft strategies with a variety of stakeholders, bringing them along the journey.
  • Design and facilitate workshops for alignment, ideation and iteration – for small and large groups – either remotely and or in-person.
  • Promote digital inclusion and design for our customers who have accessibility needs.
  • Help our design function mature and develop.

What you will bring

  • Your toolkit, containing everything you need for solving problems and driving solutions, using rapid prototyping (using wireframes in low and high fidelity) and the gamut of service design, design thinking and customer discovery.
  • An inquisitive and open mind, growth mindset, and willingness to wear several hats and work with fellow experts.
  • A commitment to people, especially those you'll be managing, and to collaboration, cohesion and our friendly, fun, can-do culture.
  • Qualifications in design, technology, data, social science, business, or a related discipline an advantage. Formal training in human centred design, UX or research is also highly desirable.
  • Flexible, hybrid, and remote working if you prefer (but you'll need to be based somewhere in Victoria as there's still a need to come to the office). You'll work from our Footscray HQ, the GovHub in Ballarat, or in a state-of-the-art office in one of five metropolitan or three regional locations.
  • Best practice industry tools. Including Mac or PC machines. Figma, Figjam, Miro, Jira and Confluence.
  • Follow your ambition. Get the support you need to grow. There's plenty of room to move around and try new things. We foster supportive work environments where teams achieve, and talent thrives.
  • Generous leave provisions to help you strike the right balance between work time and your time. Four weeks annual leave plus sick/carers leave; compassionate leave in the event of death or serious illness of an immediate family member; long service leave; parental leave; other types of leave including defence, jury, cultural, training or study leave.
  • We want a public sector workforce that's more diverse and inclusive. This means we're committed to the principles of equal opportunity and inclusion for all. Gender diverse, Aboriginal & Torres Straight Islanders and people with a disability are encouraged to apply.
  • We'll also consider part-time applicants too. Just outline in your application the days you're available and your approach to managing a work-life balance.
