Position Details

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) is one of the world's largest, and most highly regarded, community-based emergency services organisations. We are proud of the work we do in protecting lives and property, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.   CFA strives to be a values-based organisation and an organisation of choice for volunteers and employees, where people with a variety of skills, experiences and backgrounds all add value through the roles they perform.

About the Team:

The Operational Doctrine and Training (ODT) team consists of public safety professionals that lead the design, development and implementation of contemporary operational doctrine and training programs to support CFA's service delivery and statutory requirements. This role operates in a dynamic, ever-changing environment and requires flexibility and resilience to support all portfolios within ODT.

About the Role:

“Collaboration, critical thinking, program management and innovative content development?”

If these words resonate with you and align to your skillset these newly created fixed term positions may be of interest.

These Program Designer roles will see you position work to the benefits of members and CFA and will support the relevant leadership team and managers with ODT.  These roles will be ideal for a resilient problem solver and strategic thinker who supports the vision and strategic objectives of CFA.  Please note, there are currently multiple newly created vacancies to fill.

Your days will be varied and will see you manage the development of high-quality operational doctrine and training materials.  In additional to the specific duties and accountabilities (as outlined in the attached PD), it is highly desirable for Program Designers to contribute to the skill sets within ODT in one or more of the following areas:

  • Environmental scanning
  • Applied research and/or innovation
  • Emergency management operational environments
  • Working within complex policy settings and/or frameworks
  • VET sector and/or adult education
  • Complex project management
  • Registered Training Organisation (RTO) management
  • Audit and Risk

About You:

The person we are looking for will be Tertiary degree qualified and have the ability to collaborate and engage with various stakeholders across all levels of CFA along with the ability to work within project frameworks and manage multiple and complex projects at once.

Highly desirable is a current Training and Assessment Certificate (TAE 40116) - with an understanding of an RTO environment advantageous – or a strong policy background.

Should you only have a policy or training background, you will be able to your skills (negotiating consensus amongst stakeholders and highly developed critical assessment and writing skills) to enable you to work across both areas.

If you are keen to secure a critical role within a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment, and contribute to a small but high performing team, this may be the next step in your career.
