About the role:
Victoria Legal Aid's (VLA) Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is centred upon improving access to legal services by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and advocating for systemic change.

In this role, you will directly contribute to improving how VLA delivers services to the First Nations community in the Goulburn region and wider Victoria. This is a specialist, non-legal role predominantly focussing on family violence with client support, community engagement and empowering people through knowledge. At times, you may be required to assist in the often-complex nature of intersecting criminal, family and civil legal needs of an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander client and assist them to access tailored support and legal help.

Based at our Shepparton office, you will work collaboratively and engage with internal and external stakeholders to support First Nations clients and community to access services, including client liaison and warm referrals to appropriate support agencies.

About you:
As our ideal candidate:
• Demonstrated knowledge and lived experience of First Nation communities in Victoria, including an awareness of the social, demographic, economic, health and housing issues that inhibit access to justice and of appropriate services.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to effectively build rapport and establish relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to support service delivery.
• Qualifications and/or experience demonstrating knowledge and skills working with First Nations people in justice or a community service-related area (desirable).
Please note that this position is only open to First Nations people (mandatory).
