Position Details


The Financial Accountant supports the Financial Accounting and Reporting Unit in delivering its key functions relating to various internal and external financial reports. Main duties will include:

  • assist in preparation of internal and external financial reports;
  • liaise with key stakeholders on data collection for both internal and external audits purposes; and
  • provide accounts and administration support to the Financial Accounting and Reporting Unit.


  • Ensure the timely and accurate completion of various month-end journals and reconciliations, annual account working papers, financial reports, and other correspondence in accordance with internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Undertake data collections and analysis for inclusion in the department's reporting to the Department of Treasury and Finance.
  • Undertake data collections for audit and year-end reporting requirements.
  • Maintain department's chart of account system.
  • Provide technical financial accounting advice and assistance to stakeholders.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual statutory financial statements.
  • Liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders and ensure a high level of client service delivery.
  • Perform ad-hoc tasks as directed by the manager.
  • Comply with the Financial Management Act 1994 and other relevant legislation, regulations and government directives, policies and guidelines.
  • Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
  • Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the department's occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate how the actions and outcomes of this role and work unit impact clients and the department's ability to deliver, or facilitate the delivery of, effective support and services.
