Position Details

The Commonwealth Games – an international, multi-sport event involving athletes from the 72 member nations of the Commonwealth – is coming to Victoria in 2026.

Millions worldwide will watch the thriving regional centres of Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat, Gippsland and Shepparton host a jam-packed schedule of 20 sports, nine para sports, the Games ceremonies and festival program that together will showcase the best of Regional Victoria.

The Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (Victoria 2026) will deliver the Games. Together with the State of Victoria, the Commonwealth Games Federation and Commonwealth Games Australia, it is tasked with organising a world-class event for athletes, spectators, locals and the Commonwealth of Nations.

About the Role

The Director, People & Culture (PAC) will be responsible for implementing the PAC Strategies and manage the PAC operations, systems and advice within the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (OC).

Reporting to the Executive Director of People & Culture, this role will be responsible for: 

  • Leading the delivery of People & Culture operations and strategic advice in a fast paced and complex environment, drawing on expertise to create an integrated and seamless delivery of recruitment, HR Systems and other workforce services.
  • Implementing the setup of the Games PAC function and take a leadership role on all aspects of the PAC life cycle and projects.
  • Ensure the Games has the workforce it needs to deliver on its objectives by facilitating robust workforce planning, including remuneration and budget planning, and effective and timely recruitment, onboarding, training, retention and offboarding solutions.
  • Participate in the management and procurement of contracts with external service providers for PAC services to ensure that services, data, and information is provided accurately and in a timely manner.

 To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated senior PAC leadership experience including the ability to recruit and retain a high performing workforce to deliver exceptional results
  • Experience in driving and implementing an effective workforce planning strategy for a high performing new organisation within a project or major sporting event environment will be well regarded.
  • Highly developed stakeholder management skills with a proven track record developing constructive relationships and a flexible approach to resolving issues.
