About the role:
The Assistant General Counsel will work with the General Counsel to lead law practice and public sector advice, litigation, governance, regulatory and risk management initiatives at Victoria Legal Aid (VLA). You will provide expert legal advice to staff and managers on a range of issues such as reviewing contracts, briefing external counsel, and providing advice on other legal and governance issues as they arise. 

You will take the lead in developing templates and guidance notes, and keeping staff abreast of relevant developments in government and corporate law obligations. You will also deliver training and information sessions to staff.

About you:
You will be an experienced lawyer with a deep understanding of public sector, regulatory and litigation issues and risks within and for VLA. You will have extensive experience providing high quality, strategic legal, regulatory and risk management advice with outstanding judgement and analytical skills, and have a demonstrated ability to anticipate and address issues proactively.  As a skilled decision maker, communicator and negotiator, you will be able to present confidently and effectively to a range of senior decision-makers and you will demonstrate a strong commitment to our vision and values.
