About the role:
We are seeking a self-motivated lawyer to work within Victoria Legal Aid's (VLA) Health Justice Partnership with Sunraysia Community Health Services in Mildura. This role is focused on working within the community to prevent and address legal problems at the earliest opportunity through targeted community legal education and engagement.

You will provide legal services including information, advice, and conduct casework predominately in child protection matters to vulnerable clients with complex legal and non-legal needs. To promote a holistic service, you will need to be willing to gain knowledge and provide advice in other legal areas connected to the primary legal issue, including civil law and family violence matters. You will also participate in education activities designed to support health workers and service providers to identify and respond to signs of legal need.

This is an exciting opportunity for a lawyer with an interest in holistic lawyering and early intervention.

About you:
You may be a lawyer with knowledge and practical experience or have a willingness to gain this knowledge and experience, in child protection matters. You will also demonstrate a willingness to give referrals and initial advice in other legal areas including mental health and disability law, tenancy, social security and infringements. You may have experience providing advocacy, advice and conducting casework to vulnerable clients with complex needs or show a strong willingness to develop these skills. You may have a good understanding of the key challenges vulnerable individuals and groups experience accessing legal services, particularly in regional and rural areas.

Crucial to your success in this role will be your interpersonal and communications skills with an ability to communicate effectively with vulnerable clients and stakeholders. You will also demonstrate your commitment to working towards VLA's vision and values. Knowledge and/or experience in other legal areas including mental health and disability law, tenancy, social security and infringements will be highly regarded, but not essential.

About Victoria Legal Aid:
We help people with their legal problems by providing information, advice, education and dispute resolution assistance, with a focus on the prevention and early resolution of legal problems.

Employee benefits:
We offer attractive employment benefits including salary packaging (making part of your salary tax-free and increasing take-home pay), flexible working arrangements, family friendly policies and opportunities for professional development.

How to apply:
Submit a current resume and completed Candidate Application Form addressing the specified key selection criteria. Separate responses to all of the key selection criteria outlined in the position description are not required. You must complete the candidate application form to be considered for this role.

For further information review the attached position description or contact Heidi Deason, Manager, Mallee Regional Office on (03) 5055 4010.
