About the role 

Our organisation is seeking an experienced individual to fill the role of Senior Android Developer. This role is a high-level position in our organisation and comes with a lot of responsibilities. The selected candidate will be in a senior role in the mobile development team, architecting and developing a robust, scalable, and efficient Android version of the Service Victoria mobile app. The individual will also be expected to mentor junior developers, review codes, and ensure the overall quality of applications.

Key responsibilities

1.  Helps to plan, design, build and support our products.

2.  Contribute to product planning by providing authoritative and pragmatic advice balancing technical excellence, business             objectives and quality requirements.

3.  Develops high-quality solutions to challenging and complex product requirements.

4.  Helps lead the technology strategy, including design patterns, library re-use, testing and deployment techniques

5.  Provides guidance and technology leadership to the rest of the team, helping everyone. improve their skills and craft,                   contributing to the overall technical capability of the organisation.

6.  Drives a culture of continual improvement and introspection and champions a desire to improve within the team constantly.

7.  Proactively keeps up to date with relevant technology, trends, developments, and advancements.

Key selection criteria

1.   Strong working knowledge of Android SDK, different versions of Android, and how to deal with different screen sizes.

2.   Experience with RESTful APIs to connect Android applications to back-end services.

3.   Excellent knowledge of Android UI design principles, patterns, and best practices.

4.   Experience with offline storage, threading, and performance tuning.

5.   Familiarity with cloud message APIs and push notifications.

6.   A passion for keeping up to date with development trends.

7.   A keen attention to detail and passion for great user experiences.

8.   Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

9.   Great communication, influencing and coaching skills with the ability to explain complex ideas and solve problems..

10. Desire to assist team members to reach their potential.

11. A well-developed sense of empathy for your customers, both internal and external.
