About the role

South West Healthcare (SWH) is seeking a Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon to join their team.  SWH are seeking a team player who thrives in a supportive, collaborative environment. You will be welcomed into a dynamic team combining VMO and staff specialist colleagues with a diverse range of special interest and expertise, committed to delivering safe, best practice clinical services to patients. 

  • The Orthopaedic Team provides a range of specialist services for both adults and children with Orthopaedic conditions, including: Upper and lower limbs elective orthopaedic problems, major joint replacements, general adult and paediatric orthopaedic trauma and emergencies.
  • Orthopaedic surgeons will provide, supervise and be responsible for the provision of clinical duties including inpatient care, pre-and post-operative, outpatient care and supporting the fracture clinics.
  • You will promote and participate in clinical governance activities and other patient safety quality activities including clinical audits and Morbidity and Mortality Meetings.
  • Orthopaedic surgeons will contribute to the education and training of interns, junior medical staff and registrars in orthopaedics.
  • The Deakin Rural Clinical School is located in the main campus.
  • The service has a Research Unit supportive of clinicians looking to conduct clinical or academic research.

What you bring

The successful applicant will have a broad experience in the field of Orthopaedics and hold suitable qualifications as a medical practitioner registered with AHPRA, be a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgery and hold a current registration with the Medical Practitioners Board of Australia. Strong effective communication, conflict management and team building skills are essential to this role, as this will have a positive attitude to towards training of junior medical staff.

The successful applicant will have proficient leadership, organisational and interpersonal skills, as well as developed written and verbal communication skills.
