About the Business Unit:
Corrections Victoria is responsible for the direction, management and operation of Victoria's prison system and Post Sentence Scheme. As a service agency within the Department of Justice & Community Safety (DJCS), Corrections Victoria develops and implements policies, programs and services that ensure the safe and secure containment of prisoners, and that seek to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.
About the Role:
Hopkins Correctional Centre is a medium security prison located in Western Victoria housing up to 798 people. The prison takes a multi-disciplinary approach that promotes active participation in activities structured to assist with rehabilitation and reintegration back to community at end of sentence.
Reporting to the Finance & Stores Team Leaders, the Justice Officer – Stores & Finance will process a range of financial, accounts payable and purchasing transactions ensuring compliance with requirements and timelines. This role will ensure electronic and paper-based record keeping systems are up to date and accurate. This may include petty cash, banking, accounts payable and prisoner finance (SPEND), day-to-day operations of the prison stores functions including warehouse, procurement and administrative functions, prisoner shop, prison archive, prison vehicle fleet and state uniform store.
This position requires direct prisoner contact and supervision and may involve weekend and public holiday work, in accordance with the applicable provision of the VPS Enterprise Agreement 2024.
Some of your duties will include:
- Working productively and respectfully as part of a dedicated and supportive team within a rotational roster framework featuring task responsibilities in accordance with the position responsibilities.
- Process a range of financial and administrative transactions ensuring compliance, including data entry, cash handling, preparation of journals, reconciliations and reporting, and accommodation bookings as directed.
- Ensure electronic and paper-based record keeping systems are up to date and accurate. Ensure accurate and timely payment of invoices.

About You:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Well-developed computer literacy
- Sound knowledge of and application of legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations
- Experience with Oracle or similar finance related system
- An understanding of shop, store and warehousing operations including associated stock management.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Advanced computer skills including effective use of various systems such as word processing, spreadsheets, email, appointment scheduling and internet is desirable.
