About us 

The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.  

About the role 

Lead and maintain a high performing state-wide team that focuses on inspections and compliance with consumer and renting legislation and creating a fair marketplace for businesses as well as consumers – and ensures that all work aligns with the Renting Taskforce.  Establish and sustain a broad spectrum of relationships across community and support Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) to advise, educate on rights and responsibilities, while also enforcing compliance with consumer laws, residential tenancy laws and other legislation administer by CAV.

There is a fixed term position available for a period of 24 months. The work location for this position is Melbourne CBD or Gov Hubs across metropolitan Melbourne with hybrid work arrangements available.

 Key accountabilities include:

  • Manages and leads a team of staff to ensure alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Initiates and maintains relationships with peers and senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Negotiates with stakeholders and peers with the object of gaining co-operation and meeting timelines for delivery of project, service, or advice.

About you 

To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate: 

  • Knowledge of, and/or relevant experience in legislative compliance and enforcement activities and CAV‐ relevant legislation, regulations, policies and procedures OR capacity to learn and apply knowledge of all the above, as required.

Mandatory requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Law, Business, Commerce, or other related fields will be an advantage.
  • A Certificate IV in Government (Investigation) will be an advantage but is required to be obtained within 12 months of commencement in this role.  
  • A Current Victorian Driver Licence is required.
