The Customer and Regulatory Services Group ensures seamless interactions between government, customers, and businesses in Consumer Affairs and Local Government. It delivers the highest standards of regulatory services efficiently, aiming for excellent customer experiences. 

About the role

Reporting to the Secretary, you will be accountable for:

  • Providing expert guidance to DGS ministers, including those for Local Government, Consumer Affairs, and Government Services, as well as the Victorian Government and Secretary, to formulate evidence-based policy frameworks and decisions.
  • Providing strategic thinking and the ability to navigate complex policy issues.
  • Guiding a group responsible for regulatory and compliance activities, emergency management, and council governance.
  • Managing responses to intricate regulatory and governance challenges, ensuring risk mitigation across financial, reputational, and safety domains.
  • Developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with government, industry, and community stakeholders crucial for informing policy development and enhancing service delivery.
  • Leading the emergency management function within DGS and coordinating its involvement in statewide emergency planning processes

About You

  • Strong leadership and demonstrated experience contributing to cross-Group initiatives and policy matters.
  • Ability to drive legislative and regulatory reforms to enhance consumer protection, council governance, and service delivery.
  • Ability to advance the consumer affairs and local government policy agenda, striving to improve the overall outcomes for Victorians.
  • Effective networking and relationship-building with departments, central agencies, local councils, and stakeholders, essential for successful policy implementation and community engagement.
  • Proven influencing, negotiation and relationship-management skills in an environment requiring highly developed interpersonal skills, and a proven capacity for highly effective communication with a range of government and non-government stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated effective people management to support and create the conditions for highly-functioning, productive and engaged teams
