About the roles:

We are seeking engaged and motivated administrative professionals who want to contribute to improving the lives of disadvantaged Victorians. As a legal assistant, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of our client services.

We have five positions available:

Legal Assistant, Dandenong Children's Court

  • 4 x full time ongoing roles (part time considered)

The purpose of those roles is to provide operational assistance and administrative support to a team of lawyers delivering services at the Dandenong Children's Courts.

You will undertake core clerking duties of intake, triage and referral of parties to duty lawyers in the Family Division of the Children's Court at Dandenong while working collaboratively with the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing staff, Children's Court staff and other court users to achieve timely referral of parties for legal assistance.

The role will also require you to assess party eligibility for duty lawyer services in accordance with relevant VLA duty lawyer guidelines.

Legal Assistant

  • 1x Part time ongoing role (FTE 0.8)

This role aims to provide effective and efficient administrative support to a team of lawyers and administrative staff, such as word processing, data entry, file management and where required, reception services.

You will also triage client inquiries at the office or in court, record outcomes and provide internal or external referrals as appropriate.

You will assist the Administrative Services Manager with various administrative tasks including the booking of client appointments, the training and orientation of new staff within the office and updating and maintaining VLA's client database and case management system.

About you:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Demonstrated capacity to provide administrative support including excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads, meet timelines and work under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide client focused services in a complex, confidential and sensitive environment.
  • Sound interpersonal skills and the capacity to communicate with clients who are often people who are socially and economically disadvantaged, people with a disability or mental illness, children, the elderly and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Sound problem solving and decision-making skills to ensure that clients and other members of the public receive efficient and effective delivery of VLA services.
