Finance Board Reviews Team

The Finance Board Reviews Team is a new function within the Budget and Finance Division of DTF. The Team uses data and evidence to provide advice to the Treasurer on the financial sustainability and operational efficiency of entities across Government. The Team promotes the optimal allocation the state's fiscal resources across the competing priorities of government, provides advice to departments on financial management and undertakes financial analysis and reporting to support Government decision making.

 About the role 

Reporting to a Senior Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

Analysis, Innovation and Improvement

  • Providing innovative budget, policy and financial management analysis and advice on a variety of whole of government issues including departmental performance against outputs, efficiencies, budget and resource allocation. This could include funding of government services and programs, fiscal strategy, industrial relations and policy implementation;

and/or

  • Applying strong knowledge of accounting and finance to provide advice on financial impacts of government decisions by undertaking financial analysis and interpreting financial statements to identify financial impacts and extract greater detail or understanding;
  • Undertake the authoring, planning and coordination of briefings and other financial and policy inputs to decision making for a range of publications, budget documents and financial reports; and
  • Contribute to the critical and constructive challenging of processes and identify opportunities for improvement, innovation and knowledge management across Portfolio Analysis, the Division and the Department.

Leadership and Teamwork

  • Taking responsibility for and as required lead the coordination and performance of specific tasks to the required quality. This will include working with direct team members or other teams across PA, the Division and the Department to deliver work priorities to meet strict deadlines;
  • Supporting and contributing to Departmental goals, demonstrate organisational values and behaviours, and a commitment to personal and professional development; and
  • Contribute and actively support the maintenance of a positive and healthy team culture.

Stakeholders and Influence

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders within the Department and with other central and portfolio agencies;
  • Managing productive and constructive stakeholder relationships, to support informed decision-making and enable timely responses to requests for information; and

Influence stakeholder perspectives and persuades stakeholders to consider their own issues from a broader perspective.  Influences stakeholders to adopt more appropriate/alternative course of action by using a range of

About you 

We are seeking applications from candidates with demonstrable experience in: 

  1. Commitment and motivation to work in the public sector.
  2. A record of achievement in the provision of high quality strategic advice to senior management or government on resource management and allocation, including an ability to apply expertise to non-routine or complex data, resulting in establishing high quality options or alternatives and recommendations.
  3. High level innovative and analytical problem solving and solution generation skills, combined with a flexible and agile approach.
  4. Proven teamwork skills with the ability to deliver assigned team priorities and maintain performance standards whilst supporting a positive and health team culture.
  5. A good understanding of government policy and/or fiscal, budget, accounting and financial management policies, processes and reform directions.
  6. Proven ability to maintain stakeholder relationships and negotiate and influence others to achieve strategic objectives; and
  7. Capability in building productive relationships with clients and other stakeholders at both a technical and business level.
