The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services. 

About the role

The Senior Data Analyst is a  fixed term position. You will contribute to the delivery of the department's high volume grants programs, through the provision of best practice data management and data analytics.

The roles sit within the Grants Data Services Team – a specialist team within the Program Centre that is responsible for all bulk data management tasks required for the assessment and administration of high-volume grants programs.

The successful applicant will work effectively as part of an energetic and productive team, be highly motivated and innovative, enjoy flexible working arrangements and undertake a wide variety of work across the branch.

Key accountabilities

  • Provide technical data analysis and modelling through the collection of information from GEMS/Oracle Datawarehouse and other relevant data sources and translate into assessment reports appropriate for grant program management and analysis for stakeholders across the department.
  • Coordinate the analysis of grants data and identify and action solutions and initiatives to support data cleansing and data integrity.
  • Developing and monitoring processes to provide data extraction, transformation, and loading between Salesforce and Oracle Cloud Data Warehouse.
  • Developing procedures and scripts to analyse data and perform grants program assessment checks.
  • Setup data monitoring and reporting processes and prepare high quality reports to ensure sound and timely business decision-making.

About you

To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate:

  • High level technical expertise in the use of data systems and the management and analysis of large quantities of data using MS Excel, SQL, Salesforce, PowerBI, and Python.
  • Ability to make sound and timely decisions based on a consideration of facts and evidence, weighing up risks and opportunities, and with an understanding of the wider business context.
  • Advanced conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to undertake independent research, identify issues and develop innovative solutions.
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively as a team member in the pursuit of team and departmental goals; to collaborate and share information; and to accommodate and work well with the different working styles of others.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, coordinate and manage work activities independently or as part of a multi-disciplinary team with minimal supervision and direction. 

Technical expertise

  • Advanced skills in MS Excel and Structured query language (SQL) for data analysis are mandatory.
  • Proven Experience in at least one of the areas - PL/SQL programming, PowerBI, or Python programming is essential.
  • Knowledge and expereince of Salesforce objects and data structures is highly desirable.
  • Ability to understand and test data processing and data flows in a software application is essential.
  • Good understainding of data management in data warehouse is mandatory.
