Drug & Alcohol Counsellor

Permanent Part Time – 40 hours per fortnight

MDHS has a fantastic opportunity for a Drug & Alcohol Counsellor with a broad range of skills and knowledge to join the Community Services team within MDHS. In this role you will be responsible for conducting assessment, providing consumers with all possible alternative treatment options, and providing appropriate referrals for clients.

We are looking for someone with the following qualities:

  • Experience in counselling clients with AOD and/or complex issues
  • Sound understanding of primary care and commitment to the Social Model of Health

KSC1 - Tertiary Qualifications and experience in Social Work/ Welfare or other relevant disciplines.

KSC2 - Knowledge of current practice with regard to alcohol and drug counselling.

KSC2 - Demonstrated experience in counselling clients with AOD and or complex issues

KSC3 - Sound understanding of primary care and commitment to the Social Model of Health

KSC4 - Understanding and commitment to a multidisciplinary team approach to health management.

KSC5 - Proven ability to work autonomously as well as within a team environment

KSC6 - Well developed written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to liaise and consult with a range of professionals, community groups, vulnerable clients and local agencies.

KSC7 - Ability to perform in a changing work environment

KSC8 - Ability to work therapeutically in a range of environments that includes centre based, assertive     outreach and other community forums
