Position Details

 About the role: 

The Manager, Vaccine Preventable and Respiratory Disease, will lead a team responsible for the prevention and control of measures to vaccine preventable diseases and respiratory infections across the networked public health system through the provision and maintenance of statewide policy, strategy, surveillance, assurance, and co-ordination activities.

Demonstrating relevant experience and expertise in public health, leadership, strategy development and delivery, finance and resource management, and stakeholder engagement, this role is responsible for coordinating and developing public health control strategies that draw upon evidence and local intelligence to keep Victorians safe.

How you'll make a difference:

  • Leading a multidisciplinary team responsible for the prevention and control of vaccine preventable diseases in Victoria across the networked public health system through the provision and maintenance of a state-wide system of policy, strategy, surveillance, assurance and co-ordination measures and state-wide outbreak response.
  • Present authoritative, evidence-based advice on vaccine preventable disease matters to management within the Department, external agencies and members of the public as required.
  • Prepare, review and present written and verbal reports, including the development of state-wide strategies, policy, protocols and the preparation of briefing material in relation to the prevention and control of Vaccine preventable diseases.
  • Pro-actively build and maintain positive relationships with local public health units and key stakeholders that facilitate engagement and contribution to Vaccine preventable disease prevention and control strategies.
  • Support state-wide epidemiology, surveillance and intelligence services in Vaccine preventable diseases and assist to monitor disease trends and evaluate interventions.
  • Lead state activities as the lead control agency in state and nationally significant communicable disease threats and support of localised outbreaks as required.
  • Work with teams to identify problems, vulnerabilities and risks in relation to communicable disease prevention and control including making recommendations of innovative solutions and developing assurance strategies.
  • Develop capability and best practice communicable diseases control through leadership, education, advocacy and support and develop excellence in the field through contributions to teaching and research; mentor peers and undertake and promote professional development activities.
