Position Details

About the roles:

  • Salary commensurate with experience, range: $65,033 - $84,157 + super

Both roles will involve acting as an advocate and duty lawyer handling complex casework and appearing in various courts and tribunals including the provision of outreach services at Bendigo, Kyneton, Castlemaine, Echuca, Swan Hill and Kerang. You will participate in advice sessions, community legal education projects as needed and contribute to the implementation and review of the Loddon-Campaspe Regional Office Plan and VLA Strategic Plan.

  • Family Lawyer (focusing on Child Protection)

Act as a family lawyer in intervention order, child protection and family law proceedings at the Family Court of Australia, the Federal Magistrates' Court of Australia and the Magistrates' Court of Victoria to effectively advocate for legal aid clients. 

  • Lawyer, Family Violence and Child Protection

Appear as an advocate in various courts and tribunals services in the Bendigo region and surrounding areas including duty lawyer services, casework and advice services in local courts and tribunals primarily in family violence and child protection matters. 

About you:
You will have substantial knowledge and practical experience in the areas of family law or criminal law and family violence intervention orders, with the capacity to work as an advocate and caseworker. You will have high level interpersonal skills, including the ability to form productive professional relationships and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and clients at all levels.

Our lawyers hold front line positions in our courts, dealing with disadvantaged clients, often with special needs and complex issues, therefore we need lawyers with resilience and maturity to deal with this challenging and rewarding work.
