About us

The Department of Treasury and Finance provides economic, financial and resource management advice to help the Victorian Government deliver its policies. We strive for excellence in financial and economic management to improve the lives of all Victorians.

Branch

The Environment, Resources & Decarbonisation team supports the government's agenda and provides authoritative and timely policy advice to DTF's portfolio ministers and senior management on energy, environment, climate change and natural resources issues.  Our advice supports the Government to achieve its target of net zero emissions by 2045, and renewable energy of 65% by 2030 and 95 per cent by 2035.  The successful applicant will be joining the team at a critical stage in the state's energy transition, in a uniquely influential role.

About the role

The Environment, Resources & Decarbonisation, economic policy group are looking for a Policy Analyst / Economist to join their team on an ongoing basis. In the role you will use your expertise in economics and/or public policy to provide timely, accurate, accessible and fit-for-purpose advice on complex economic, financial and/or public policy issues. You will Analyse, interpret and synthesise information, including quantitative data sets. Below are further accountabilities of the role.

  • Contribute to and manage projects to inform policy development;
  • Communicate with and influence internal and external stakeholders;
  • Collaborate within and outside the team on economic, financial and/or public policy projects; and
  • Contribute to fostering a positive team culture and participate in planning and decision-making in the Group.

About you

We are seeking applications from candidates with demonstrable experience in:

  • An understanding of the role and influence of State government in policy-making;
  • Influence – demonstrated experience shaping stakeholders' views and supporting informed decision-making on complex issues;
  • Conceptual, problem-solving and analytical skills – demonstrated capacity to solve complex problems and interpret and synthesise information;
  • Communication – strong communication skills including conveying complex issues persuasively in plain language;
  • Teamwork – demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with team members and a range of stakeholders.

Experience and qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in economics, public policy, commerce, law or a related field are an advantage.
