About the Role
CFA's Media Unit is a team of media specialists responsible for developing and implementing strategies which underpin and guide CFA's interaction with Victorians through the media.
As part of the Media Unit, the Media and Events Advisor will use their media knowledge and expertise to contribute to the delivery of the strategy's objectives.
You will represent the organisation according to CFA media policies with authoritative, timely and accurate information and advice to internal and external stakeholders in relation to issues and opportunities for the organisation.
As the central communications contact for Ministerial attendance at CFA events, your ability to manage, track and report on multiple projects will be crucial to your success in this role.
You will also develop and manage approvals for communications materials for media events, media enquiries, media releases and speeches as directed by the Media Manager and/or Media Director. Along with this you will assume responsibility for media relations during incidents and emergencies as directed.
A requirement of this role includes being part of a media on-call roster to respond to media requests after business hours, on weekends and public holidays along with shift work at the State Control Centre and Incident Control Centres around the state. You will also require a Victorian driver's license to travel to media events and other activities.
About You
Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:
- Tertiary qualification or relevant experience in media, communications, event management, administration or related discipline in the media industry, government and/or corporate sector.
- Strong writing skills with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to translate technical information into formats suitable for a range of audiences and experience in developing high-quality written communications such as event briefs, presentations, media releases, and other collateral, as required.
- The ability to create engaging digital content (e.g. videos / photos) in support of events.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders across an organisation.
- Proven experience in internal and external stakeholder management, including the ability to manage multiple requests for assistance in a mature and outcomes-focused manner.
- Excellent time management skills, including the ability to work to tight deadlines and follow -up senior stakeholders for responses/in-puts while managing multiple projects or deliverables.
- Exceptional administration skills and attention to detail including the ability to maintain a coherent filing system, manage, track, and report on multiple projects at once.
- Understanding of CFA and emergency services environment in Victoria.
