Position Details
Declared lived or living experience supporting a family carer or loved one with mental health and/or AOD challenges is desirable as is experience (paid or volunteer) in working or leading from a family carer lived/living experience/peer perspective.
About the role:
- As Senior Policy Officer, Lived Experience in the Lived Experience Policy Team you will lead policy and strategy development, and will work with lived experience-led agencies and other stakeholders to ensure lived experience perspectives shape reforms and are embedded in the new mental health and wellbeing system. You will also support important reform activity to deliver on Royal Commission recommendations that support outcomes for families, carers and supporters.
- The role is a critical part of the response to implementing recommendations from the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System providing, or facilitating the provision of, family and carer perspectives across the reform agenda.

How you'll make a difference:
- Provide authoritative advice to Mental Health and Wellbeing Division staff on how to access and support lived experience expertise to inform reform activity.
- Support the cultural shift and practices that enable family and carer views to be central and integrated in design and delivery of mental health and AOD services.
- Ensure contemporary approaches to partnership with people with lived experience across work, striving for consistent approaches and methodologies.
- Collaborate and support strong relationships between the Division and key sector partners (including, but not limited to, Self-Help Addiction Resource Centre, Harm Reduction Victoria, Tandem, the Victorian Mental Illness Awareness Council, the Centre for Mental Health Learning, and the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation) regarding activities that have relevance for lived and living experience perspectives.
- Represent the department on key stakeholder committees and groups concerned with achieving government and departmental objectives and contribute to relevant committee and governance processes.
- Formulates and communicates public policy options and recommendations; keeps up to date with a broad range of contemporary issues; scans for links and potential implications of proposed policy options; liaises with stakeholders.
Suitable applicants will be able to demonstrate:
- A tertiary qualification in fields related to AOD, public health, public policy, community engagement, project management, mental health, communications, administration, business management or related fields would be an advantage.
