Position Details
About the role:
Scheduled interview dates: 12/12/2024 and 13/12/2024.
- The VPS-5 Senior Policy Officer will contribute to a range of programs and projects supporting the provision of evidence-based advice on Statewide prevention and population health priorities including, but not limited to, the development, implementation and monitoring of the Victorian public health and wellbeing plan required by the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008.
- Demonstrating relevant experience and expertise in information gathering, thoughtful analysis, robust project management and monitoring, and stakeholder engagement, this role will liaise internally within the department, cross government through the Public Health and Wellbeing Interdepartmental Committee and externally with stakeholders.

How you'll make a difference:
- Contribute to statewide health promotion and prevention policy and strategy including the Victorian Public Health and Wellbeing Plan.
- Provide authoritative advice, reasoned recommendations and innovative solutions to complex and sensitive issues based on comprehensive research.
- Develop policy initiatives that meet government and departmental objectives within resourcing, timeline, and budget parameters.
- Monitor and report on high priority issues, risks and trends and prepare and present reports, ministerial briefs, Cabinet, and agency submissions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships and facilitate the flow of information across the department and with key external stakeholders.
- Effectively supervise and provide leadership other employees by:
- leading and supporting individuals to achieve their potential and contributing to organisational goals and outcomes.
- modelling behaviours integral to good people management and departmental values.
- where relevant, managing and monitoring specific improvement objectives in annual improvement plans relating to the area of responsibility.
- extensive experience coaching, developing and managing a team
- extensive experience in change management and providing positive and constructive leadership during and following change management periods
Suitable applicants will be able to demonstrate:
- A tertiary qualification in fields related to women's health, public health, community services, public policy/administration, health administration or business management is highly desirable.
