About us
The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services. 

About the role

The Cyber Security, Data and Digital Resilience Division is responsible for leading and overseeing government's digital resilience, and preparedness and response to cyber security risks.
As part of the establishment of the Victorian Government Cyber Operations branch, there is significant development of our Security Orchestration, Automation and Response (Palo Alto's XSOAR) Platform.

The DevSecOps Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the branch's SOAR platform to enhance automation and the cyber defences of the Victorian Government

This includes creating and testing custom workflows, integrations and automation scripts to streamline incident response processes, analysing and resolving technical issues, and collaborating with cybersecurity teams to ensure the platform meets the needs of stakeholders.

The role requires strong python programming skills, knowledge of cybersecurity principles, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment to improve overall security posture and response capabilities.

About you

To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate:

  • Demonstrated experience building solutions using SOAR technologies, cloud infrastructure and connecting different platforms using APIs and other integration.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into ‘plain English' to assist a variety of stakeholders and decision-making requirements.
  • Technical understanding of ICT networks and cyber threats.
  • Capability in using Atlassian suite of tools (Jira, Confluence) to document use cases, tickets, issues or service management. 
  • Commitment to consistently delivering high-quality service to stakeholders and support to other team members.

Mandatory requirements

  • The successful applicant will be required to attain and maintain a Negative Vetting 2 Security Clearance.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop, maintain and improve use cases and dependent infrastructure for the Cyber Operations branch functions.
  • Monitor the uptime and health of Cyber Operations branch services and fix outages or performance issues as they arise.
  • Contribute and provide advice to the systems design and services architecture of the Cyber Operations branch.
  • Contribute to the teams' success with operational support and technical advice as required. 
  • Develop effective networks and relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders including collaborating with DGS and other Victorian Government departments including non-government organisations.
