About the opportunity
We have an exciting permanent opportunity for a Senior Media and Communications Advisor responsible for developing and implementing media and communications strategies to support Energy Safe Victoria's objectives as the state's energy safety regulator.
You will contribute by:
- Manage and expand the presence of Energy Safe in the Victorian and national media by producing accurate, timely, easily understood and consistent messaging.
- Ensure Energy Safe's position and key messages are reflected in media coverage.
- Develop comprehensive media and communications plans to address issues that impact Energy Safe's reputation and promote energy safety awareness.
- Form strong relationships with journalists and other public stakeholders.
- Negotiate with and influence key internal and external stakeholders, including the media, senior managers and ministerial staff in the management of emerging media and reputation issues.
- Provide expert advice to business areas, senior management, executive and the Energy Safe Commission on strategic media opportunities.
- Develop and implement media policies and procedures and ensure that the appropriate approvals are obtained for media and communication materials.
- Provide media monitoring including preparing daily reports and identifying emerging issues.
- Write, edit and produce industry and stakeholder e-newsletters.
- Attend media events as required
To be successful, you'll have:
- An appropriate tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in journalism, public relations, communications or a similar discipline.
- Significant experience in a similar role in applying strongly developed media and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and manage issues that could impact on organisational reputation or strategic objectives. Experience in crisis communications.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and manage effective relationships with Ministerial advisors, senior managers and communications equivalents across government and the sector.
- Understanding and desire to promote energy safety stories through media channels.
- Demonstrated ability to manage media events to bring awareness of energy safety issues and promote the Energy Safe brand.
- Ability to prepare, edit and proof-read to a high standard various forms of written communications including media releases, speeches, opinion editorials and industry articles.
- An understanding of Victoria's energy safety framework and regulation (desired).
- Experience and understanding of the role and responsibilities of a statutory authority in the broader Victorian Government context (desired).
