About the role
South West Healthcare (SWH) is seeking a committed and experienced medical leader to join our Emergency Department as the Deputy Director of Emergency Medicine (DDEM). This pivotal role supports the Clinical Director of Emergency Medicine (CDEM) in leading a high-performing team, delivering exceptional patient care, and maintaining a strong focus on quality, safety, education, and professional standards.
As DDEM, you will take a leading role in clinical governance, departmental operations, and medical staff supervision. You will be instrumental in mentoring clinicians and contributing to strategic planning, continuous improvement, and training across the department. The position also includes acting as delegate for the CDEM as required and working closely with the DEMT, other clinical leaders, and executive staff to support integrated, high-quality emergency care at SWH.
As Deputy Director of Emergency Medicine, you will:
- Support the CDEM in providing high-level clinical leadership and operational oversight.
- Promote professionalism, accountability, and excellence in line with SWH's values.
- Assist in departmental performance monitoring, activity management, and budget oversight.
- Collaborate across departments to develop and implement coordinated clinical services.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of medical education and training programs.
- Provide supervision and mentorship to medical staff, including undergraduate and postgraduate trainees.

What You Bring
As the successful applicant will have:
- Extensive experience in Emergency Medicine, including emergency systems management and innovation in patient care.
- Demonstrated leadership and experience in medical administration, including strategic planning, quality improvement, and accreditation processes.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor multi-disciplinary teams, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- A strong background in clinical education and supervision, including support for junior medical staff and community engagement.
- Registration with AHPRA as a medical practitioner and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Emergency Physicians (FACEM).
