About us
The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.
About the role
The Project Director, Strategy and Planning is responsible for leading the implementation of the Consumer Affairs and Local Government Group's strategic and system reform projects. You will provide informed advice and decisions throughout the project lifecycle to ensure the project is compliant with legislation and community expectations.
You will be proficient in project management and lead all aspects of project delivery including scheduling, budgeting, scoping, stakeholder management, procurement, governance, and risk management.
The role involves representing DGS and working proactively and collaboratively across a range of government and non-government stakeholders to achieve whole of government outcomes. Strong communication and project management skills are required in this role.
You will be a highly focused and driven person who is passionate about contributing to the delivery of government services, working within a high-performing project team to drive exceptional outcomes.
Key accountabilities include:
- Lead and coordinate advice on the delivery of key system reform projects to the Minister of Consumer Affairs, and senior stakeholders across the Consumer Affairs and Local Government Group.
- Lead the implementation of key strategic projects in all phases of the project lifecycle from design, procurement and delivery.
- Build, maintain and influence strong relationships and collaborate with project team members, external stakeholders to ensure work is prioritised and delivered on time, and to appropriate costs, quality standards, government and community requirements.
- Proactively identify and promptly resolve risks through exercising excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
About you
To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate:
- Established leadership experience in core program delivery including project management skills, reporting, and governance with the ability to deliver clear and demonstrable, customer and business outcomes.
- Proven experience and demonstrated capacity in systems thinking, to identify and address emerging issues through high-level conceptual analysis and risk management. Delivers advice and solutions to senior stakeholders in a sensitive environment as a result of critically analysing problems.
- Demonstrated ability to address and resolve potentially significant legal, political, environmental and commercial risks associated with projects within the Group's portfolio.
- Proven influencing, negotiation and relationship-management skills in an environment requiring highly developed interpersonal skills, and a proven capacity for highly effective communication with a range of government and non-government stakeholders.
- Strong written communication skills to deliver high quality program documentation and reports on programs that are complex in nature.
