About the role: 

The Senior Financial Accountant works in a team with a diverse range of financial accounting and reporting focused functions relating to portfolio entities.  These include providing advice and guidance on financial accounting and reporting matters, managing financial data and reporting as well as a common chart of accounts, and advising on these to stakeholders. Key deliverables of the role include whole of Government financial reporting of variance analysis monthly trial balance submission and eliminations, mid-year and annual financial reporting for portfolio agencies as well as system knowledge for data collection and maintenance.

About you:

The successful candidate will have experience in finance and accounting, the ability to problem solve and work collaboratively in a team environment.

Provide financial management, analysis and reporting services to stakeholders within the department and broader health portfolio. Typical outputs may include:

  • Preparation of portfolio agencies' financial data submission to Department of Treasury and Finance including monthly trial balance consolidation and eliminations, variance commentary, mid-year and annual financial reporting
  • System management for financial data submission
  • Grants reconciliation
  • Forecast / commentary
  • Borrowing cap – BDO Lead
  • Revaluation
  • Reviewing guidelines and standards, developing policies, providing advice and acting as a central point of integration and interpretation on accounting and financial policy issues for the health portfolio;
  • Guiding, monitoring and reporting on the financial practices of portfolio agencies;
  • Developing and providing advice on model accounts for portfolio agencies;
  • Collecting, collating and analysing portfolio agencies' financial information and producing reports and briefings to the Secretary, Minister or other stakeholders on these results.
