About us 

The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.  

About the role 

The Group Governance and Planning Lead supports the Consumer Affairs and Local Government Group meet its strategic directions through the coordination and delivery of a range of corporate, governance and other support functions.

The role is responsible for leading a small team and coordinating across the wider Group to:

  • enhance visibility of Group governance and business operations including budget, HR and project reporting
  • manage budgets and lead strategic reporting activities including corporate and business planning, and annual reporting processes
  • ensure appropriate governance is in place; hold the Group risk register, monitor compliance and record audit activities
  • manage the flow of policy BAU processes, including for Parliament (PPQ, PAEC) and central agencies and coordination to the Secretary and Minister
  • coordinate FOI processes for the Group

In addition, the role will work closely with the DGS Communications branch, as well as the DGS corporate support functions, including Finance, Technology, People & Culture and Accommodation.

About you 

To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate: 

  • Demonstrated experience working across corporate and governance functions in government, with the ability to identify and deliver clear and demonstrable customer and business results.
  • Strong budget, project management, planning and organisational skills, including the ability to be flexible and adaptable in a busy work environment.
  • Proven influencing, negotiation and relationship-management skills in an environment requiring highly developed interpersonal skills, and a proven capacity for highly effective collaboration with a range of internal and external government stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to address and resolve potentially significant legal, political, environmental and commercial risks associated with projects within the Group's portfolio.
  • Strong written communication skills to deliver high quality program and project documentation and reports on programs that are complex in nature.
  • Proven people management skills, including demonstrated ability to build effective high performing teams, to successfully lead change and to deal responsively, practically and creatively with complex people issues.

Other requirements

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent professional experience is desirable.
