About the Department
The role of the Department of Education is to support Victorians to build prosperous, socially engaged, happy and healthy lives. It does this by supporting lifelong learning and healthy development, strengthening families and helping to equip people with the skills and knowledge for a 21st century economy and society.
Schools and Regional Services comprises 17 Areas within four regions across the state, as well as five central Divisions. The responsibilities of Regional Services include:
- service delivery including performance, contract management, funding delivery and acquittal
- program implementation including detailed implementation planning and delivery
- local area engagement, advice, support and partnerships
- workforce capability development, professional practice leadership and delivery
- emergency management including critical incident response
- supporting strong regional partnerships with early childhood services, schools and other education providers to deliver high-quality services and outcomes with a 0-18 focus
About the Region
The Area-based regional operating model is designed to:
- connect between central government policy and the delivery of high quality services to Victorians
- drive outcomes across all stages of learning through expert advice and support
- connect with families, service providers, schools and communities
- lead, collaborate and partner at a local level to overcome social and economic challenges facing our communities, towns and cities
- deliver health, wellbeing and support services to children, young people and their families to assist them in their learning and development
- improve connectedness and transitions between important points in a child's life - such as between early childhood, kindergarten, school and tertiary education
- assist and support children and young people who are vulnerable, disengaged, and those with disabilities or challenging behaviour.
About the Role
The primary responsibility of this role will be to respond in a timely and consistent manner to provide quality advice and support to general inquiries from the public and school communities and to effectively manage, monitor and resolve parent inquiries and complaints.
The Community Liaison Officer will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and provide advice and support to Executive Directors and leadership teams within the region. They will promote and maintain strong relations with key stakeholders and other regional and central staff to ensure consistent, high quality practice across the region and proactively work with principals/schools to develop processes and policy around complaints management.
In addition to working within an Area to satisfactorily resolve an enquiry or complaint, the incumbant will be required to work across Areas within a region and liaise between other Regions and the Central office.
The role is part time 0.5FTE with potential for flexibilty of working from home noting that some office based days will be required.

Your capacity for collaboration and maintaining genuine relationships with peers and stakeholders through informal and formal communication to achieve goals and continuous improvement will be pivotal for your success.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Strong knowledge and understanding of DE policies.
- Experience working in a dynamic, high performing team in a large complex organisation.
- Capacity to make evidence-based decisions.
- Proven ability to effectively engage and build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels through effective communication and exceptional negotiating abilities.
- Ability to interpret and convey DE policies to all stakeholders.
- Effective problem-solving capability to resolve or escalate operational service queries.
- A Tertiary qualification in Education or related field.
