Position Details
- Great opportunity to join Youth Justice on a fixed-term basis in Melbourne
- Deliver engaging training to Youth Justice staff, including Foundations training, refreshers, and top up training to staff across precincts
- Collaborate with team members to develop training and assessment materials
The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system in Victoria focusing on prevention, diversion, and early intervention as the most effective and fiscally responsible ways of reducing youth crime.
The Youth Justice Learning and Capability team is part of the Transformation, Development and Capability business unit, responsible for transformation, learning and development to support employees. The team delivers training across Youth Justice Custody and Community areas, spanning induction training to refresher, upskilling and professional development training.
Learning and Capability's purpose is to enable staff to grow their capabilities through quality learning and professional development services, to better serve our community.
The Opportunity
- Fixed term, part-time (0.4) position until June 30th 2026, based in Melbourne and other Youth Justice locations.
- VPS Grade 4 role: $97,955 - $111,142 per year plus superannuation.
- Deliver training for Youth Justice staff, including foundational (induction) and professional development programs.
- Develop training and assessment material and strategies in consultation with stakeholders.
- Collect and maintain training data using tools including but not limited to Nexus, SnapForms and Microsoft Forms.
- Provide subject matter expertise to training programs through facilitation and contributions to relevant training resources.
- Conduct scheduling, coordination and related activities for the delivery of Multicultural Multifaith training across the Youth Justice Community and Custodial workforce.
- Contribute to policies and procedures including but not limited to learning design system and process development, facilitation, assessment, training schedules, rosters, and staff skill development.
- Adhere to safe work practices and actively protect the health and safety of yourself and others by maintaining standards and reporting any OH&S issues.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Proven ability to lead engaging group and individual training sessions to achieve targeted learning outcomes with strong leadership skills to guide and mentor trainees, fostering a culture of professional growth and continuous learning.
- Demonstrated specialist knowledge of multicultural and multi-faith communities, with the ability to translate cultural and religious understanding into practical, evidence-based training that builds the capability of support workers to deliver culturally safe and inclusive services.
- Skilled in assessing learners for nationally recognised qualifications, ensuring assessments meet competency standards and compliance requirements.
- Proficient in Nexus, including recording attendance, creating new course events, printing attendance sheets, assigning training and conducting reporting.
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or Diploma of Vocational Education and Training or Diploma of Training Design and Development or willing to obtain.
- Diploma or higher education qualification in Community Services or related field highly desirable.
- A current driver's licence is required due to the need to work across different locations.
You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check, which you will need to maintain for the period of employment.
