About us 

The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.  

About the role 

We are seeking a Senior Adviser, Communication and Engagement to join our high-performing division and support the delivery of the department's priority initiatives.

This is a senior, influential role that sits at the centre of major projects that shape how government services are designed, delivered and experienced. Working in close collaboration with project, product and program teams, you will provide expert advice and leadership on best-practice communication and engagement across the full project lifecycle—from strategy and planning through to delivery and launch.

You will:

  • lead the development and delivery of strategic communication and engagement approaches for high-profile, complex projects
  • build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including across the VPS and industry
  • develop clear, compelling communication materials that support understanding, trust and adoption
  • collaborate closely with communication and engagement specialists to deliver coordinated, high-quality outcomes
  • Use your expertise to strengthen communication and engagement capability across DGS

Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to influence at all levels are critical to success in this role.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will bring a strategic mindset, sound judgement and a passion for communication and engagement that makes a difference.

You will demonstrate:

  • excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven experience developing and delivering high-quality communication and engagement strategies and materials
  • senior-level experience in planning and managing communication and/or engagement programs in large, complex environments, including monitoring and evaluation to support continuous improvement
  • an ability to identify emerging issues and risks and support the development of effective mitigation strategies
  • highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills, with a proven ability to build trusted relationships and provide clear, timely advice to a wide range of stakeholders

Desired experience / qualifications

  • Demonstrated senior level experience in communication and engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of IAP2 principles and frameworks.
