About us

The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.

About the role

Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) is Victoria's consumer regulator, ensuring a fair, safe and competitive marketplace for Victorians. CAV is part of the Department of Government Services.

Working in Consumer Affairs Victoria, Senior Inspectors conduct a range of compliance monitoring activities and inspections as authorised under the Australian Consumer Law and FairTrading Act, and other legislation administered by CAV. These inspections will typically include leading compliance checks issued under the State-wide Inspection Program as well as other activities identified by regional intelligence.

Requiring a degree of judgement, discretion and experience, Senior Inspectors undertake more complex inspections of traders as they arise, including where there is a history of previous compliance breaches, or following a complaint of specific breaches. Senior Inspectors carry out residential tenancy investigations including rental assessments and non-urgent repairs as required. Senior Inspectors also perform front line dispute resolution, provide business and community education and lead or coordinate CAV campaign initiatives, as well as mentor CAV staff and provide leadership to workforce planning and implementation to ensure strategic priorities are achieved.
