About the opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Data Scientist to join the Sector Monitoring sub-branch and work with both the Early Learning Monitoring and Compliance team and the newly established Kindergarten Audit, Assurance and Risk team.
This is a Fixed Term Full-time opportunity until 30 June 2029.
The Senior Data Scientist will play a pivotal role in:
- Designing and implementing intricate data solutions that streamline and improve effectiveness of the team's work, including the design and implementation of a machine learning tool to assist with financial viability assessments and risk tiering.
- Contributing to benchmark development related to risk mitigation and compliance in the areas overseen by Sector Monitoring.
- Responding to emerging risks with analysis to support key decision-makers.
- Preparing key executive communication materials such as visualisations, PowerPoints, dashboards and written reports.
- Developing team capabilities with technical expertise and learning opportunities
About you
- Demonstrated experience analysing complex datasets with machine learning tools
- Proven ability to apply independent critical thinking and problem-solving skills in different contexts and to identify trends, patterns, risks and opportunities.
- Demonstrated innovative and systems thinking that drives transformation
- Effective written and verbal communication skills that is clear to non-technical stakeholders and concisely conveys complex issues and recommended actions.
- Ability to work collaboratively with differing viewpoints and stakeholder needs.
- A proactive self-starter, with an ability to work in a complex, sensitive and fast-paced environment.
Mandatory requirements
- Relevant experience with Python coding
- Relevant experience designing machine learning tools across a large and complex dataset.
About us
The Early Learning Operations and Monitoring Division leads core funding, operational policy, data collection and reporting, contract management policy and financial monitoring functions for funded Three- and Four-Year-Old kindergarten programs in Victoria. This includes a number of sector supports and programs to help ensure viable, well managed services that are accessible to all children. The Sector Monitoring sub-branch leads financial assessment and central monitoring of funded kindergarten providers as well as the newly established Kindergarten Audit and Assurance Program.
About the Department
The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.
The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
