Emergency Management Victoria (EMV) is seeking a Senior Communications and Engagement Advisor – Get Ready program, to provide a critical role within Emergency Management (EM) Communications.
About the Business Unit
Emergency Management Victoria (EMV), within the Department of Justice and Community Safety, is responsible for the overall coordination of the emergency management system in Victoria. EMV drives the integration of policy, strategy, operational coordination, and planning across Victoria's emergency management sector, contributing to safer, more resilient communities.
EMV works closely with government and agencies across the emergency management portfolio. The organisation is led by the Deputy Secretary/ Chief Executive and Emergency Management Commissioner, Emergency Management Victoria and includes oversight of statutory entities and offices and the department's emergency management accountabilities.
Emergency Management Communications
Emergency Management (EM) Communications delivers communication services on behalf of DJCS Emergency Management to inform and educate the community about emergency management policies, programs and legislation across the emergency management sector to keep the community safe. The EM Communications function is responsible for the coordination of communications across preparedness, response, relief and recovery.
About the Role
The Communications Adviser supports delivery of key communications materials that help community to access to information across an emergency lifecycle to enable their decision making. They work with stakeholders to understand communications needs and help to tailor communications to meet the unique needs of local communities. They are responsible for delivering communications that meet government guidelines and policy, including accessible communications for diverse audiences across a range of channels.
Some of your duties will include:
- Supporting the implementation of strategic communication and engagement initiatives.
- Engaging with government, industry and community stakeholders to understand their needs and supporting broader stakeholder engagement activities.
- Developing emergency preparedness communications for communities, including writing and editing material for websites, social media, call centre scripts, stakeholder packs, fact sheets, media releases, education material, local media opportunities, newsletters, and key message documents.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Experience in engaging stakeholders to coordinate and deliver effective communications including at a local level and tailored to unique places.
- Experience developing and delivering communication materials for vulnerable, complex and diverse audiences.
- Experience writing effectively for different audiences and channels, including social media, website, newsletter, media and stakeholder materials.
Qualifications
- A qualification in communications or related field is desirable.
