What you will be doing
Reporting directly to the General Counsel, this role supports the delivery of legal services across the VEC's operational and regulatory functions. Working within the Electoral Integrity and Regulation portfolio, you will contribute to a broad range of legal matters in a fast-paced and purpose-driven environment, supporting the VEC to deliver fair, compliant and well-managed electoral processes across Victoria.
You will be responsible for:
- Preparing clear, practical and timely legal advice (both written and oral) on a wide range of matters on issues relevant to the VEC's portfolio, including in the areas of statutory interpretation, administrative law and commercial law.
- Interpreting and applying legislative frameworks relevant to the VEC's operations, providing advice that informs policy decisions and supports the implementation of legally robust solutions.
- Undertaking research and analysis to support advice on well-defined, moderately complex and sensitive legal matters.
- Supporting litigation, enforcement and dispute resolution activities, including assisting with the preparation of briefs, evidence, and court or tribunal documentation, and liaising with external legal providers as required.
What you will bring to the role
- Demonstrated minimum 2 years P.A.E (unrestricted Victorian practicing certificate) in a relevant field of legal practice, including commercial, administrative, constitutional or public law.
- Demonstrated experience drafting, interpreting and analysing agreements, including tenders, contracts, deeds and leases, and advising on risk exposure is highly desirable.
- Strong written skills including proven experience in providing written advice, which is concise, accurate and clear, on a range of moderately complex and sensitive matters.
