About this opportunity
The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) is seeking a Senior Communications Officer to support the delivery of the 2026 Victorian State Election, to be held 28 November 2026.
This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to one of Victoria's most significant civic events. As Senior Communications Officer (Advertising), you will work in a fast-paced, high-volume operational environment, supporting the integrity, accuracy and transparency of election outcomes. The role of the Senior Communication Officer is to support the VEC and the Communication team in the delivery of communication and advertising campaigns across all media touchpoints.
About the team
You will be part of the Engagement and Strategic Relations Group which is responsible for Communications, Education and Engagement and Customer Experience.
Why join us
At the VEC, we enable all Victorians to actively participate in their democracy. We deliver state and local council elections and promote public awareness and understanding of electoral matters.
You will gain valuable experience in large-scale election operations, complex logistics, and time-critical project delivery, while working alongside experienced professionals. The VEC offers a collaborative, value-driven workplace with a strong focus on integrity, inclusion, accountability, and service excellence.
This role contributes to the delivery of the 2026 State Election and supports the integrity of Victoria's democratic process.
A day in the life of a Senior Communications Officer, Advertising
Be right in the thick of delivering one of the state's biggest mass communication campaigns — the state election — and help make sure millions of people get the information they need, when they need it.
You'll coordinate statutory advertising, manage fast‑moving campaign schedules, and keep everything running smoothly across media buying and creative partners. One moment you're booking ads or reviewing media documents; the next, you're ensuring every asset meets brand, copyright and accessibility standards.
You'll also sharpen how we operate by building reports, templates and processes that keep teams aligned and campaigns on track. If you're organised, proactive and thrive when the pressure is on, this role puts you right at the heart of a major statewide communication effort.
You will have demonstrated experience in:
- Planning, developing and delivery of advertising reporting activities, working with internal stakeholders and agency partners to support rolling reporting on content and advertising performance across owned and paid platforms.
- Responding quickly to changing priorities, identifying and escalating routine issues or risks, and managing competing demands during peak periods.
- Providing campaign project support, ensuring campaigns run to schedule and provide clear communications to stakeholders and agency partners.
