    About the Role

CFA's Fleet Engineering team is responsible for the technical design, procurement and modification of emergency response vehicles that support CFA volunteers and communities across Victoria.

We are seeking a Senior Officer Engineering to provide technical expertise across CFA's fleet and capital build programs. You will help review, develop and evaluate emergency response vehicle designs, ensuring appliances are safe, fit for purpose, reliable and compliant with CFA and industry standards.

Working closely with Engineering Project Managers, Fleet Operations, manufacturers and suppliers, you will contribute to vehicle configuration, technical design, product research, procurement, warranty management and continuous improvement.

    What you'll do:

    • Develop 2D and 3D technical drawings and CAD designs for firefighting and specialist vehicles.
    • Support vehicle configuration, stowage layouts, locker designs and bracketry using CAD and mock-up models.
    • Provide technical content, drawings and imagery for operating manuals and documentation.
    • Work with manufacturers and suppliers to resolve warranty issues, reworks and post-delivery problems.
    • Research new manufacturing methods and recommend improvements to vehicle design, reliability and operational capability.
    • Provide clear, evidence-based technical advice to support vehicle design, procurement and production decisions.
    • Assess supplier proposals and manufacturing processes against engineering, operational and compliance requirements.
    • Support technical investigations into vehicle reliability and safety issues, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement focused on vehicle performance, safety, reliability and whole-of-life cost.
    • Promote best-practice engineering principles across CFA's Fleet environment.

    About you

    • Tertiary qualification or demonstrated experience in mechanical or automotive engineering discipline.
    • Demonstrated ability to assist in the development and review of technical specifications, drawings and design documentation.
    • Experience supporting compliance against relevant Australian Standards, ADRs, ergonomic and safety-indesign principles.
    • High level of computer literacy and proficiency in relevant engineering software i.e. AutoCAD or similar software.
    • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality assurance and innovation.
    • Demonstrated commitment to staying updated on industry trends, emerging technologies and best practices in product development.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet tight deadlines.
