About the opportunity  

We have an exciting Full-Time, Max Term (12 months) opportunity for an experienced electrical industry professional to join Energy Safe Victoria's Renewable Energy Safety team as a Compliance Officer (Solar and Domestic). Reporting to the Solar and Domestic Systems Manager, you will play a key role in promoting and enforcing safety, quality and compliance standards across Victoria's renewable energy sector. 

In this field-based role, you will monitor, audit and assess solar, battery and renewable energyelectrical installations for compliance with legislation, regulations and Australian Standards. You will investigate complaints and incidents, identify potential breaches, provide technical advice, contribute to enforcement activities, and support education initiatives across industry. Working closely with licensed electricians, electrical inspectors, solar installers, industry stakeholders and the community, you will help drive improved safety outcomes for Victorians.

What you'll contribute  

As a Compliance Officer (Solar and Domestic), you will support Energy Safe Victoria's regulatory oversight of the renewable energy sector, helping improve industry compliance and deliver safer outcomes for the Victorian community. In this role you will: 

  • Monitor, audit and assess renewable energy and domestic electrical installations for compliance with legislation, regulations, Australian Standards and Certificate of Electrical Safety requirements. 
  • Respond to complaints, incidents and electrical safety concerns from industry and members of the public. 
  • Conduct technical and legal investigations into serious electrical incidents, including identifying potential breaches of legislation and standards. 
  • Prepare reports, technical findings, briefs of evidence, correspondence and recommendations arising from audits, inspections and investigations. 
  • Provide technical advice and interpretations to industry participants, stakeholders and the public on electrical safety requirements. 
  • Develop and deliver education and awareness initiatives to support improved compliance outcomes. 
  • Assess and peer review reports relating to audits and inspections of renewable energy installations. 
  • Receive, assess and make recommendations regarding exemption applications under relevant regulations and standards. 
  • Represent Energy Safe Victoria at industry forums, stakeholder meetings and standards committees. 
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of compliance systems, processes and procedures. 
  • Participate in the Energy Safe Victoria availability roster and undertake availability duties as required. 
  • Other relevant duties as required. 

 

To be successful 

We're looking for an experienced electrical industry professional with strong technical knowledge of solar, battery and renewable energy systems. You will bring a practical understanding of electrical safety requirements, experience in auditing or compliance activities, and the ability to engage effectively with industry stakeholders to achieve positive safety outcomes. To be successful, you will have: 

  • Current Victorian Electrician's Licence (or equivalent). 
  • Broad electrical industry experience, including photovoltaic and battery system design, installation, inspection and/or auditing. 
  • Strong knowledge of relevant electrical legislation, regulations and Australian Standards. 
  • Experience auditing systems, installations or processes to achieve compliance outcomes. 
  • Excellent customer service skills and experience managing complaints and stakeholder enquiries. 
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide authoritative technical advice. 
  • Strong advocacy, relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills. 
  • The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and contribute effectively within a team environment. 
  • Personal resilience and willingness to attend serious electrical incident investigations when required. 
  • High ethical standards and sound professional judgement. 
  • Computer literacy including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. 
  • Experience conducting incident investigations (Desirable). 
  • Preparedness to complete a G Class Electrical Inspector's Licence (Desirable).
