About Independent Family Advocacy and Support (IFAS):
The Independent Family Advocacy and Support (IFAS) service is a 3-year pilot delivering high quality non-legal advocacy services to families involved in the child protection system.

IFAS will provide advocacy services including information about people's rights and the system, supporting people to enact those rights using self-advocacy strategies, and making referrals to legal and non-legal services. The focus will be assisting families prior to the commencement of court proceedings. It will prioritise working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and parents with an intellectual disability, working in both Bendigo and Melbourne's northern suburbs.

About the role:
The Lived Experience Consultant will work with the IFAS team to establish a reference group, comprised of people with lived experience of the child protection system, to inform the service's ongoing development, delivery and evaluation. You will provide advice and feedback on policies, projects and initiatives, and facilitate the involvement of people with lived experience of the child protection system in the development, delivery and evaluation of the IFAS service.

About you:
You will have knowledge and lived experience of the child protection system and/or other relevant service sectors, and an understanding of the relevant policy and legal frameworks. You will have experience convening and facilitating groups and building relationships with people with lived experience as well as a diverse range of stakeholders.

You will have a deep understanding of the challenges impacting Victorians when accessing the child protection system and support services and the ability to convey this understanding in an accessible, compelling manner in a range of forums.

Employee benefits:
We offer attractive employment benefits including salary packaging (making part of your salary tax-free and increasing take-home pay), flexible working arrangements, family friendly policies and opportunities for professional development. The work is both challenging and rewarding and our staff are supported by experienced and capable managers as well as a range of internal departments and programs committed to staff safety and development. VLA has a friendly and inclusive culture of people working to make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged Victorians.

How to apply:
