About the role:

The Senior Program Officer, AOD Quality and Safety Projects delivers projects and workstreams that strengthen quality, safety and outcomes across Victoria's alcohol and other drugs (AOD) system. Working within the AOD Programs and Performance Unit and under the direction of the Quality and Safety Projects Manager, you will contribute to the planning, design, implementation and evaluation of priority reforms and service improvement initiatives.

This position works collaboratively with internal teams, service providers and other stakeholders to support the translation of policy and reform into practical implementation approaches. You will develop evidence-informed advice, coordinate stakeholder consultation and prepare project plans, briefings and governance materials to support decisions and delivery.

About us:

At the Victorian Department of Health we want a future where Victorians are the healthiest people in the world. A Victoria where our children and people thrive, our workplaces are productive and safe, and our communities are more connected.

We see it as our job to support Victorians to stay healthy and safe. And to deliver a world-class healthcare system that ensures every single Victorian can access safe, quality care that leads to better health outcomes for all.

About you:

You bring strong project management, policy analysis and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear advice and practical actions. You can manage competing priorities, identify emerging issues and keep projects progressing. You work collaboratively, exercise sound judgement and communicate effectively with a range of audiences. You are comfortable working through ambiguity and developing workable solutions informed by evidence and stakeholder perspectives.

Main accountabilities include

  • Develop policy options, project briefs and advice on complex issues.
  • Undertake research and analysis to inform policy and sector standards.
  • Apply policy concepts and frameworks to operational issues and new situations.
  • Organise work and resources to deliver agreed outputs.
  • Build stakeholder relationships and negotiate cooperation to meet delivery timelines.
  • Develop innovative, practical approaches to improve outcomes.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, Cabinet material, ministerial and Secretary briefings, and meeting papers.

Qualifications

A tertiary qualification in mental health, public health, public policy, community engagement, project management, AOD, communications, administration, business management or a related field would be an advantage.

Specialist expertise

A sound understanding of the Victorian AOD system, and knowledge of the department's operating processes and information systems, are desirable. People with lived and living experience are encouraged to apply.

What we offer:

  • The opportunity to perform meaningful work, making direct contributions toward enabling Victorians to be the healthiest people in the world.
  • A wide range of growth and development opportunities within the department and wider Victorian Public Service.
  • A strong commitment to work-life balance, including a diverse array of flexible working arrangements.
