Senior Policy / Projects Advisor

As the successful applicant you will work within the Policy and Legislation Division of Victoria Police at one of two units.

The Drug and Alcohol Strategy Unit is responsible for coordinating and developing implementation of policies, advice and resources to assist frontline members and specialist areas of Victoria Police. The unit also prepares advice for the Victoria Police executive and organisational representatives on state and cross-jurisdictional groups.

The National Policy Unit is responsible for consulting on and developing Victoria Police positions, as well as preparing advice, for Victoria Police executive consideration on cross-jurisdictional policing priorities, projects and initiatives.

Position Details

Your duties will include:

  • Preparing quality advice to support Victoria Police executive and representatives participating in external forums or meetings.
  • Working in consultation and collaboration with other parts of the organisation and other policing jurisdictions on strategic responses to policing issues.
  • Identifying emerging cross-jurisdictional policing priorities and developing agenda papers for consideration at cross-jurisdictional forums and meetings.
  • Management of the organisational application of Drug Diversion and Cautions (Drug and Alcohol Strategy Unit).

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Experience in preparing high level written advice for senior executives within short timeframes.
  • Experience in policy development within a strategic or national reform context, including Ministerial briefings would be highly regarded.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Familiarity with current and emerging national policing issues.

Requirements and relevant information:

  • Two (2) Full Time, Ongoing Positions available; one (1) at the National Policy Unit (20022893), and one (1) at the Drug and Alcohol Strategy Unit (20003558).
  • Your usual place of work will be within the Policy and Legislation Division, Capability Department, Victoria Police Centre, 637 Flinders Street, Docklands 3008, however you may be required to work at any other division within the Department/Command as required.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification would be desirable.
  • The successful applicant for the National Policy Unit position will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • Applicants applying for the Drug and Alcohol Strategy Unit must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or hold a valid work permit or visa. I confirm that I am legally entitled to work in Australia.
