  • Working within the Operational Support Division, Southern Metro Region located at the Dandenong Police Complex, 50 Langhorne Street, Dandenong, 3175*

About the role

The Regional Intelligence Management Unit (RIMU) provides intelligence support to the southern metropolitan region allowing for a more effective and efficient response to complex policing issues.  The RIMU performs the secretariat role for Regional Tasking and Coordination as well as undertaking analysis of data and statistics to produce intelligence products that inform managers and decision makers in the region.  The position advertised fulfils a strategic role within the RIMU and drives business and innovation accordingly.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Manage the collection, evaluation, collation, analysis and controlled dissemination of information in respect of complex investigations/situations.
  • Plan, research and develop annual strategic assessments and contribute to effective control strategies resulting from assessments.
  • Provide high quality recommendations in respect of the analysis of intelligence and statistical data, identification and evaluation of emerging patterns and trends in crime and road policing and public order.
  • Identify, assess and report on more complex specific targets or target areas, or problems.
  • Identify, research and analyse patterns and trends and provide advice on target selection and offending activity to supervisors and investigators.
  • Liaise with internal and external potential sources of information in order to obtain assistance in the provision of timely and accurate intelligence.
  • Design, implement, document and maintain systems for the reception, recording, access, dissemination and culling of all information.
  • Compile regular management reports, develop and maintain computer based intelligence applications and holdings as well as manual information systems to assist the intelligence process.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to analysts completing their first strategic assessment.


As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of research and analysis techniques, information and intelligence management processes and needs in intelligence analysis, strategic planning, criminology or other relevant academic disciplines.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills including the ability to liaise with a diverse range of internal and external personnel and stakeholders and proven ability to plan and organise work and produce high quality results.
  • Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills and the proven use of initiative in solving problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to review statistical/financial information and identify trends, patterns and issues and provide expert advice and recommendations relating to complex technical issues.
  • Proven ability to monitor client and stakeholder satisfaction, and constructively manage stakeholder issues to ensure positive outcomes for the stakeholder and the Department.
  • A proven record of ethical behaviour and a demonstrated commitment to the Victoria Police Code of Ethics and Conduct, Financial Code of Practice, and the Organisational Values.


Requirements and relevant information

  • Successfully complete the modules of a Victoria Police approved Intelligence Program relevant to the role as determined by the Region / Department / Command and qualify within 18 months from enrolment
  • Post Graduate qualifications in the field of criminology, criminal justice, criminal intelligence or similar are highly desirable
  • The successful candidate may be required to undergo and successfully obtain and maintain a National Security Clearance to the level determined by the Department Head. To obtain this clearance applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The incumbent will be required to complete the OHS requirements of the organisation, which may include local level training relating to equipment usage and Hazardous Chemicals.

*Your usual place of work will be within the Dandenong Police Complex, RIMU however you may be required to work at any other location within Southern Metro Region Operational Support as required.
