Position Details

  • VPSG4 range $79,955 - $90,716 p.a. + super + leave (in addition to this you will be paid a 20% retention allowance and payment of applicable shift penalties as worked),
  • Three (3), full time, ongoing  positions available,
  • Your usual place of work will be within the Custodial Health Service located at the Melbourne Custody Centre (MCC), 520 Lonsdale Street, this position includes travel to designated Metropolitan and some Regional Police Stations.

About the role:

The Custodial Health Service  provides Health Care to people held in Police custody; across the Metropolitan and Regional Police Stations, The Melbourne Custody Centre and the Custodial Health Advice Line (24/7 Phone Triage).

The role of the Custody Nurse is to provide a specialist clinical nursing service to persons in this challenging and complex environment.

 Ideally you will have;

  • Excellent Clinical Assessment skills, with an eye for detail,
  • The ability to effectively triage and monitor patient deterioration quickly and calmly,
  • The confidence, skills and ability to provide an excellent level of care as a sole practitioner with minimal supervision,
  • The ability to work with other health care professionals and organisations to ensure collaborative and holistic care of patients,
  • Effective communication attributes and critical thinking skills.

Some of your duties will include:

Ensuring the provision of ongoing expert treatment, advice, education in relation to;

  •  Acute & Chronic illness,
  •  Mental Health illness,
  •  Self-harming behaviours,
  • Suicide interventions,
  • Drug and Alcohol abuse,
  • and other complex care situations.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Clinical experience, preferably within an acute care setting, (Post Graduate qualifications highly desirable),
  • Emergency Department (Including Triage), Rural & Remote or acute Primary Care experience with up to date knowledge of contemporary treatment for injury and illness,
  • Advanced computer literacy,
  • Possess a current Victorian Driver Licence and hold or qualify for a White Class Driver Authority within three (3) months,
  • Shift and weekend work is a requirement for these positions and is determined by Victoria Police, these requirements will be paid in accordance with the Victorian Public Service Enterprise Agreement 2016.

Requirements and relevant information:

*Your usual place of work will be within the Custodial Health Services Division, Human Resource Department, however you may be required to work at any other division within the Department as required.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo and successfully obtain and maintain a National Security Clearance to the level determined by the Department Head. To obtain this clearance applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
