Position Details

Custodial Health Service (CHS) forms part of the Custody Management Division within the State Emergencies and Support Command of Victoria Police. Custodial Health Service provides clinical care and advice for those persons held in Victoria Police custody at the Melbourne Custody Centre and police stations across Victoria; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Custodial Health Service team is made up of a wide range of Victoria Police employees including 25 nurses, 4 doctors, 2 pharmacists, a pharmacy technician, CHS managers and administrative staff.

We are seeking to appoint two Custodial Health Service Nurse Managers to the CHS team. The successful candidates will assist with managing and coordinating clinic staff as well as engaging with stakeholders including Prison Officers, Police Officers and Police Custody Officers.

Your duties will include:

  • Supervision and support of clinical staff;
  • Coordination and prioritisation of resources and services;
  • Ensure duty of care with respect to the Victorian Charter of Human Rights of those in custody;
  • Provide professional development opportunities within the unit;
  • Leadership and mentoring of staff;
  • Contribute to continuous improvement to patient care and workplace culture.

Requirements and relevant information:

  • VPSG5 salary range $96,942 - $117,293 p.a + super + leave loading + 20% allowance*
  • The position is primarily located at the Melbourne Custody Centre, 520 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • These positions involve regular shift work across 7 days a week. The incumbent will be required to work rostered hours, shift work, some public holidays and weekends. Shift allowances will be paid in accordance with the relevant Victorian Public Service Agreement.
  • The incumbent of the position may be required to be on stand-by/recall outside the ordinary hours of duty. Allowances will be paid in accordance with the relevant Victorian Public Service Agreement.
  • Qualifications and/or experience in triage or a clinical intake role will be highly regarded.
  • Registration with Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) as a Registered Nurse will be required.
  • *Please note that the VPSG5 salary range will increase to $98,396 - $119,052 p.a. from 1 July 2019.
